Just to catch you up, in weeks 1-13,
I've used:
Commanders, Bills, Chiefs, 49ers, Dolphins, Raiders, Seahawks, Chargers, Saints, Cowboys, Lions, Broncos, and THE STUPID STEELERS,
Wow. We're OK. It's going to be OK. Right????
Tell me it's going to be OK!!!!!!
No really, we're fine.
I almost, pretty much, but not really nailed last week, yet I lost. Why?
I said the Chargers made me nervous and faded them. They didn't score a TD, but they won.
I said the Bucs and Panthers both stink. Mike Evans doesn't stink, and the Bucs won.
I said to avoid the Jags as they were primed for a let down game and an upset. Nailed that one. My solace there is I advised my son to change that pick in his pool and he went Rams. He won last week as the only other remaining owner took The Jags. Yay.
But what about me???
I took Pittsburgh with the note that if Pickett doesn't play, I would pivot to the Rams.
Well, Pickett did play for about a quarter. What also played was rain of biblical proportions.
So, The Steelers were tied at 3 at the Cardinals goal line and Kenny Pickett decides to try and take it in himself on 3rd down. He gets wrenched to the ground and leaves the game never to return. His replacement........Mitch Trubisky. Yeah, the guy that was drafted ahead of Patrick Mahomes. Well, instead of kicking the field goal and taking the lead, Tomlin decides to run the ball from the shotgun. From there the Cardinal took control of the game which included two lengthy weather delays. It just wasn't our day.
Meanwhile the Rams won going away over Joe Flacco and the Browns.
Sigh. I'm not bitter.
Like I said, we're OK. We get 2 losses and that was just our first. I wasn't alone in taking the L and the pool is down to just 5 owners with no losses and 7 with one loss. So, we're down to the final 12 and we are continuing on from here without a net.
The Big Spreads this week:
49ers -10.5 (used)
Dolphins -13 (used)
Saints -5 (used)
Pittsburgh -6 (used....and abused)
So, what's left?
We can take the Packers on Monday night in New Jersey vs. Tommy Devito and the Giants
We can take The Texans on Sunday in New Jersey vs. the back to Zach, Jets
We can take The Ravens at home vs The Rams.
We can take The Browns and Joe Flacco at home vs. a TLaw-less Jags team.
What to do?
I'll keep it short.
In the end we have to decide, are we picking the team we think will win, or picking against the team we think will lose. Obviously in the two games at Met Life Stadium, it's more of the latter than the former. Both NY teams are pathetic and it's hard to make a case for either to pull off an upset. Yet........here I go.
The Giants are coming off of their bye and the Packers are flying high after beating the Chiefs. The Pack have their eyes on the playoffs and looking at their remaining schedule, they have a real shot. After this MNF matchup with the Giants they get the Bucs at home, Panthers and Vikings on the road and then finish at home vs. The Bears. They will likely be favored in every game. I think this one could be the stumbling block. If Dabol is worth anything as a game planner, the Giants will have a shot to pull this upset off. I'll pass here on the off-shoot chance that the lights are too bright for Jordan Love and he makes a couple of mistakes that keep the Giants in the game.
The Jets host the Texans. The Texans are in a great spot to not only make a run at the wild card, but to take over the AFC South. It's funny (or sad) how in one moment it went from the announcers of the Monday Night game were telling us how the Jags would be the #1 overall seed in the AFC with a win against the Bengals to now fighting for their lives after losing Trevor Lawrence with that ankle injury. Now is the perfect chance for the Texans to take control after winning last week at home against the Broncos. The Jets not only replaced Tim Boyle at QB, they cut him. Now they turn back to Zach Wilson. 3rd time's a charm? It just might be. The team was very supportive of the Milf-lover while he was benched and by all accounts he handled it well. There is a potential scenario where Wilson actually plays well. Use your imagination. It could happen. CJ Stroud has been amazing but losing Tank Dell doesn't help. Nico Collins may get limited by a heavy dose of Sauce and the Jets do stop the run very well. You can make a case that they would have beaten the Falcons last week if Wilson played instead of....whatever that was at QB.
Either way, I'll pass on the Texans just in case.
So that leaves me with the choice of choosing the Ravens to win, or for the Jags to lose.
We don't know if it will be Flacco or DTR in Cleveland taking on Bobby Beathard's grandson and the Jags without Christian Kirk. It's just too much of a mess to touch.
I'll go ahead and take the Ravens to win. Lamar and his crew are coming off of a bye and playing at home. I think their just all around better than the Rams and should be able to handle this game as they figure out how to live without Mark Andrews. Look for Isaiah Likely to have a much larger role this week and the Ravens D to give Matt Stafford problems all day.
Every choice matters, so good luck!!!
